What is NABARD Grade A?

NABARD Grade A is the Assistant Manager (RDBS β€” Rural Development Banking Service) officer post at the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, India’s apex development bank for agriculture and rural India. It combines an officer-grade salary, strong job security and genuinely meaningful work in rural and agricultural development. Selection is through a national-level exam conducted in three stages.

NABARD Grade A 2026 exam pattern

Phase 1 β€” Preliminary (objective, online): a screening test. In recent cycles, merit for shortlisting has depended mainly on Economic & Social Issues (ESI) and Agriculture & Rural Development (ARD), with the remaining sections largely qualifying.

Phase 2 β€” Main (descriptive + objective): deeper testing of ESI and ARD plus a descriptive English paper β€” structured writing, content depth and speed.

Phase 3 β€” Interview: the final stage before the merit list.

For the full section-wise breakup and marks, see the NABARD Grade A syllabus & exam pattern. Always confirm the exact pattern from the official notification once it is released.

Eligibility

Eligibility is based on age and educational qualification, which vary by discipline (Generalist / RDBS and the specialist streams). A bachelor’s degree with the required percentage in the relevant field is the baseline, with age relaxations for reserved categories. Check the exact criteria for your stream in the NABARD Grade A 2026 eligibility guide and the latest notification details.

Syllabus β€” where the marks really are

NABARD is a development bank, and the exam reflects it. ESI and ARD are the core β€” schemes, rural credit, agri-allied sectors, poverty, inclusion, the Economic Survey and Budget. Quant, Reasoning, English, Computer, Decision Making and General Awareness support the score but are largely qualifying in Phase 1. Build ESI and ARD from day one; the full topic list is in the syllabus breakdown.
