Why in News?
The Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSEL), Ministry of Education (MoE) released the Performance Grading Index 2.0 for States/UTs (PGI-S) and Performance Grading Index for Districts (PGI-D) reports for 2025-26. No State or Union Territory achieved the highest performance grade (Utkarsh).
What is Performance Grading Index (PGI) 2.0?
- Launched: 2018 (covering data for 2017-18).
- Developed by: Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSEL), Ministry of Education.
- Purpose: Measures the performance of school education across States, UTs and Districts.
- Approach: Uses performance grades instead of rankings to encourage improvement rather than competition.
