NABARD Grade A 2027: key takeaways
- The 2027 notification has not been released yet. All details below are based on the latest completed cycle (2025-26) and must be re-checked once NABARD publishes the new notification.
- The last cycle had four stages for RDBS: Phase I (Prelims), Phase II (Mains), a Psychometric Test and an Interview.
- In Phase I, only General Awareness, ESI and ARD count for merit. The other five sections are qualifying.
- ESI and ARD carry through to Phase II, so preparing them deeply from the start serves both phases.
- The best results come from integrating static ARD/ESI, government schemes, PIB and current affairs, rather than studying each source in isolation.

Important: Vacancies, dates, eligibility and the exam pattern for NABARD Grade A 2027 must be verified from the official notification on nabard.org after its release. Appearing in the 2026 cycle? Track it on our NABARD Grade A 2026 notification page.

NABARD Grade A exam date & vacancies: what the last cycle tells you
The 2027 dates are not yet announced. The 2025-26 cycle (Advertisement No. 05/Grade A/2025-26) is the best reference for how much time you will have between notification and exam.
| Event (2025-26 cycle) | Date |
|---|---|
| Short notice in newspapers | 4 November 2025 |
| Detailed notification and application start | 8 November 2025 |
| Last date to apply | 30 November 2025 |
| Phase I (Prelims) | 20 December 2025 |

What is NABARD Grade A?
The NABARD Grade A examination recruits Assistant Managers for the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. NABARD works in areas including:
- Agriculture and rural development
- Rural credit
- Rural infrastructure
- Financial inclusion
- Refinance
- Development of rural financial institutions
- Government programme implementation and monitoring
- Institutional development
This makes NABARD Grade A different from a conventional banking examination. Aspirants need a combination of:
Conceptual knowledge + Agriculture + Rural Development + Economy + Government Schemes + Current Affairs + Descriptive Writing + MCQ practice
NABARD Grade A 2027 selection process
In the 2025-26 cycle, selection for Assistant Manager (RDBS) had four stages. The stages can differ by post, and NABARD can change them, so confirm the 2027 process in the official notification.
Phase I: Prelims
Online objective test with qualifying and merit sections. Shortlisting is based on merit-section marks.
Phase II: Mains
General English (descriptive) and an ESI & ARD paper with objective and descriptive parts.
Psychometric Test
An assessment of personality and behavioural suitability for the role, held for candidates shortlisted after Mains.
Interview
The final assessment for shortlisted candidates.
Final selection follows the rules and weightage in the applicable notification. Because ESI and ARD are central to both Phase I and Phase II, RDBS (General) candidates should build Phase II-level understanding even while preparing for Phase I.
NABARD Grade A 2027 eligibility
Age limit
In the 2025-26 notification, the age limit for RDBS was 21 to 30 years, calculated as on 1 November 2025. Relaxations apply to eligible categories as per the recruitment rules. The 2027 cut-off date will be specified in the new notification.
Educational qualification
Requirements differ by service and discipline. The RDBS General discipline (often called “Generalist”) is open to graduates from various backgrounds, while specialist disciplines such as Chartered Accountant, Company Secretary, Finance, Legal and others have their own degree and percentage requirements. Check the exact conditions in the 2027 notification.
Nationality
Candidates must meet the nationality requirements specified by NABARD.
Age relaxation by category and discipline-wise qualifications are on our NABARD Grade A eligibility and notification page.
Do not rely on an older notification for final eligibility. Age limits, cut-off dates and qualifying percentages can change between cycles.
NABARD Grade A exam pattern
NABARD preparation should not be approached like an ordinary bank exam. The pattern below is from the 2025-26 cycle; reconfirm it once the 2027 notification is out.
Phase I (Prelims) exam pattern
| Section | Questions | Marks | Nature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reasoning | 20 | 20 | Qualifying |
| English Language | 30 | 30 | Qualifying |
| Computer Knowledge | 20 | 20 | Qualifying |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 20 | 20 | Qualifying |
| Decision Making | 10 | 10 | Qualifying |
| General Awareness | 20 | 20 | Merit |
| Economic & Social Issues (focus on rural India) | 40 | 40 | Merit |
| Agriculture & Rural Development (focus on rural India) | 40 | 40 | Merit |
| Total | 200 | 200 | 120 minutes |
Qualifying sections must be cleared, but shortlisting for Phase II is based on marks in the three merit sections. A wrong answer carries a penalty of one-fourth of the marks for that question. So do not split your time equally: GA, ESI and ARD need the largest share.
Phase II (Mains) exam pattern for RDBS
| Paper | Type | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Paper I: General English | Descriptive (typed online) | 100 |
| Paper II: ESI & ARD | 50 marks objective + 50 marks descriptive | 100 |
Phase II descriptive answers are typed on a computer, so typing practice is part of preparation, not an afterthought.

The three core areas of NABARD preparation
For serious NABARD preparation, think of the syllabus as three interconnected pillars:
- Agriculture & Rural Development (ARD)
- Economic & Social Issues (ESI)
- Current Affairs + Government Schemes + Reports
These areas overlap heavily. A government initiative on irrigation, for example, can involve:
ARD + Current Affairs + Government Scheme + Rural Development
This is why integrated preparation works better than studying every source independently.

PIB strategy for NABARD Grade A 2027
Reading every PIB release is unnecessary. Prioritise releases related to:
- Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare
- Ministry of Rural Development
- Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying
- Ministry of Finance
- Ministry of Cooperation
- Ministry of Food Processing Industries
- Ministry of Jal Shakti (water resources)
- Social-sector programmes
- Major Cabinet approvals
- Important economic data
The goal is not to collect current affairs. For every release, ask:
Can NABARD turn this into an ARD, ESI, GA or descriptive question?
If yes, study it. Ministry-by-ministry method: PIB strategy for NABARD Grade A.
Reports & indices for NABARD Grade A
Do not try to memorise every report released during the year. Prioritise those on:
- Agriculture
- Rural development
- Economy
- Employment
- Poverty
- Financial inclusion
- Banking
- Climate and agriculture
- Food security
- Human development
For every important report, note:
Issuing organisation + Purpose + Key findings + India-specific data + Major trends
NABARD Grade A previous year questions (PYQs)
PYQs are not just questions to solve before the exam. They show you:
- Which chapters NABARD tests repeatedly
- How deep the questions go
- How much current affairs matters
- How static and current topics are combined
- Which government schemes come up often
- The relative weight of different ARD chapters
- The nature of ESI questions
- What the descriptive papers expect
Use this cycle:
- Attempt PYQ
- Analyse topic
- Find the gap
- Revise concept
- Re-attempt
Analyse PYQs topic-wise, not only year-wise. Practise with our NABARD Grade A PYQs.
NABARD Grade A 2027 current affairs strategy
Filter current affairs for this exam. A practical order of priority:
ARD current affairs
Agriculture, livestock, fisheries, rural development, irrigation, agricultural technology and government interventions.
Government schemes + PIB
Especially ministries linked to agriculture, rural development, finance and social development.
Economic current affairs
RBI, inflation, GDP, employment, banking, financial inclusion, the Union Budget and major economic reports.
General awareness
Important national and international developments relevant to the exam. Remember GA is a merit section in Phase I.
Avoid memorising every event in generic current-affairs compilations. Our daily current affairs are already filtered this way.
NABARD Grade A Phase II preparation
One of the biggest mistakes aspirants make is thinking:
“I will prepare for Phase II after clearing Phase I.”
In the last cycle the gap between the two phases was about five weeks, which is not enough to build descriptive ESI and ARD from scratch. Start Phase II preparation alongside Phase I. When you study any ARD or ESI topic, ask:
- Can NABARD ask an MCQ from this?
- Can NABARD ask me to explain or analyse this descriptively?
This builds deeper understanding and saves a lot of time later. Our NABARD Grade A 2027 Advanced Programme is built around this integrated Phase I + Phase II approach.
English descriptive for NABARD Grade A
English Descriptive needs practice, not just knowledge of English.

How to prepare for NABARD Grade A 2027
Preparation runs on five connected tracks, worked on together from the first month rather than one after another:
ARD & ESI static
Concepts first, before collecting current-affairs PDFs.
Ministry-wise schemes
Structure, not isolated numbers.
PIB, reports, current affairs
Only what links to the syllabus.
MCQs, PYQs, tests
Sectionals first, full-length tests later. Analyse every test.
Descriptive writing
From the start, not after Phase I.
The two mistakes that cost most aspirants: preparing only for Phase I, and taking full-length mocks before the syllabus is covered.

NABARD Grade A 2027: frequently asked questions
What is the selection process for NABARD Grade A?
In the 2025-26 cycle, selection for Assistant Manager (RDBS) had four stages: Phase I (Prelims), Phase II (Mains), a Psychometric Test and an Interview. Stages can differ by post, so confirm the 2027 process from the official notification.
What is the NABARD Grade A Phase I exam pattern?
In the last cycle, Phase I was a 200-mark online objective test with eight sections. Reasoning, English, Computer Knowledge, Quantitative Aptitude and Decision Making were qualifying. General Awareness, ESI and ARD were merit sections used for shortlisting to Phase II.
What is the age limit for NABARD Grade A?
In the 2025-26 notification, the RDBS age limit was 21 to 30 years, with relaxations for eligible categories. Check the 2027 notification for the current limits and cut-off date.
Is there negative marking in NABARD Grade A?
Yes. In recent cycles, one-fourth of the marks for a question were deducted for each wrong answer in the objective tests.
Is an agriculture background compulsory?
No. Candidates from different academic backgrounds can apply for the RDBS General discipline, subject to the prescribed eligibility conditions. Non-agriculture candidates should give extra time to ARD fundamentals before moving to fact-heavy revision.
When should I start Phase II preparation?
From the beginning. ESI and ARD are common to both phases, so preparation should overlap.
Is PIB important for NABARD?
Yes, but read selectively. Focus on releases from agriculture, rural development, fisheries and animal husbandry, finance, cooperation and related ministries, plus Cabinet decisions and economic data.
Are PYQs enough for NABARD?
No. PYQs show what and how to study, but they must be combined with concepts, current affairs, schemes, reports and practice.
