1. India’s Retail Inflation Rises to 4.4% in June 2026

The National Statistics Office (NSO) released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for June 2026, showing that India’s retail inflation increased to 4.38% (rounded to 4.4%) from 3.93% in May 2026. This is the first time inflation has crossed the RBI’s 4% target under the new CPI series (Base Year 2024).

3. Weak Monsoon

  • June 2026 recorded a 42.8% rainfall deficit.
  • Lower rainfall affected agricultural production and food supply.

4. Precious Metals

  • Safe-haven demand led to sharp increases in jewellery prices.
  • Silver jewellery inflation: 133.21%.

  3. Banks swap the foreign currency with RBI.
  4. RBI provides rupees at a concessional swap cost.

3. Chitkara University Launches ₹20 Crore Atal Incubation Centre

Chitkara University launched the Atal Incubation Centre–Chitkara Incubation Foundation (AIC-CIF) with an investment of ₹20 crore. The centre will support deep-tech startups in drone technology, agritech, and renewable energy while promoting innovation, research commercialisation, and entrepreneurship.

4. DoP and TRAI Sign MoU for India’s Largest Telecom Survey

The Department of Posts (DoP) and TRAI signed an MoU to conduct India’s largest village-level telecom network survey across 5.68 lakh villages. Over 1.40 lakh Gramin Dak Sevaks will collect field data to identify connectivity gaps and improve rural telecom infrastructure.

5. Gujarat Signs ₹5,629 Crore BharatNet Agreement

Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN), Gujarat Government, GFGNL, and BSNL signed a ₹5,629 crore agreement under the Amended BharatNet Programme. The project will provide broadband connectivity across 14,287 Gram Panchayats, over 5 lakh rural fibre connections, and improve last-mile digital connectivity.

6. India and Australia Strengthen Strategic Partnership

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Australia, both countries finalized the India-Australia Civil Nuclear Agreement implementation arrangement, signed a new Joint Declaration on Defence and Security Cooperation (JDDSC), expanded education partnerships, and Australia announced the repatriation of three ancient Indian artefacts.

7. WIPO Report Highlights India’s Innovation Growth

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) reported that India recorded the highest growth in intangible investments among the world’s major economies. India’s intangible investment reached USD 78.2 billion in 2023, driven by software, research & development, innovation, and intellectual property.

8. Nita Ambani Receives Fortune India MPW Honour

9. INS Mahendragiri Commissioned into Indian Navy

The Indian Navy commissioned the indigenous stealth frigate INS Mahendragiri, the sixth Project-17A Nilgiri-class warship, into the Eastern Fleet. Designed by the Warship Design Bureau and built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, the vessel strengthens India’s maritime defence capabilities.

10. Wimbledon 2026 Champions Crowned

Jannik Sinner (Italy) won the men’s singles title, while Linda Nosková (Czech Republic) won the women’s singles title at the Wimbledon Championships 2026, held in London.

11. Legendary Playback Singer S. Janaki Passes Away

Legendary playback singer S. Janaki passed away at the age of 88. During her six-decade career, she recorded over 48,000 songs in nearly 20 Indian languages and won four National Film Awards for Best Female Playback Singer.

12. Former Qatar Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani Passes Away

Former Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, passed away at the age of 74. He ruled Qatar from 1995 to 2013 and transformed the country into a global energy, investment, and diplomatic hub while overseeing the expansion of LNG exports and institutions such as Al Jazeera.

15. World Horse Day 2026 Observed
