ISRO International Space Research Organization

What is ISRO ?

It is a space agency of India under the Department of Space of Government of India .

  • It’s headquarter is located in the city of Bengaluru , Karnataka .
  • The main vision of ISRO is to harness and augment the space technology for the development of nation , while pursuing space science research and planetary exploration.
  • At present Shri. S Somanath is the obligatory chairman of Isro.

ISRO coming into being

  • In India space research activities were firstly initiated under Dr. Vikram Sarabhai who is known as the founding father of the Indian Space Programs , during the 1960s .
  • The Indian National Committee for Space Research ( INCOSPAR ) was being initiated bybDr Vikram Sarabhai and Dr. Ramanatahan .
  • Satellite Instructional Television Experiment ( SITE ) during the 1975 – 76 was recognized as the world’s largest sociological experiment .
  • On 19th April 1975 India’s first spacecraft was launched ” ARYABHATA ” using soviet launcher .

Achievements of ISRO

Communication Satellites

It was established in the year 1983 with the commissioning of INSAT-1B . INSAT is one of the largest domestic satellite system in Asia-Pacific region .

Earth Observation Satellites

At very first India started with IRS-1A in 1988 , then with times ISRO launched many operational remote sensing satellites . Today India is having one of the largest constellations of the remote sensing satellites in operation .
