Context:
On 4 September 2025, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) announced that India joined the Health AI Global Regulatory Network (Health AI GRN) to strengthen oversight of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare. The signing took place in New Delhi.
About Health AI GRN
- What it is?
- A global platform launched by HealthAI (Global Agency for Responsible AI in Health) to bring together regulators, policymakers, and experts to ensure safe, ethical, and effective use of AI in healthcare.
- Mission:
- Strengthen global collaboration in AI governance.
- Promote safety, equity, and trust in medical AI.
- Develop early warning systems and safety protocols.
- Objectives:
- Share best practices & regulatory experiences.
- Ensure ethical deployment of AI tools.
- Support innovation while protecting data privacy & patient safety.

India’s Role in Health AI GRN
- Representation:
- ICMR – National Institute for Research in Digital Health and Data Science (ICMR-NIRDHDS).
- IndiaAI (MeitY’s AI initiative).
- Collaboration:
- Will work with UK and Singapore on early warning systems and safety mechanisms for AI in health.
- Knowledge Sharing:
- Share regulatory experiences and best practices.
- Help shape global standards for responsible medical AI.
- Strengthen domestic oversight capacity for AI in healthcare.
