Context:
India has reclaimed the third position in the global wind energy market in 2025, recording its highest-ever annual wind capacity additions after a gap of four years, according to a report by BloombergNEF (BNEF).
India now trails only China and the United States in annual wind installations.
Record Capacity Additions
- Wind capacity addition in 2025 (forecast): 6.2 GW
- Capacity added till November 2025:5.8 GW
- Higher than the previous record of 4.2 GW in 2017
- The surge will allow India to overtake Brazil and Germany, which ranked above it in recent years
India has climbed back to the third position for the first time since 2019, after ranking fifth for four consecutive years (2021–2024).
