RBI Grade B Notification 2026: Dates, 60 Vacancies and Where the Cycle Stands

RBI Grade B 2026 — the official timeline

Read the shape of it for next year: about six weeks from the advertisement to Phase 1, six more to Phase 2, and four weeks from Phase 2 to the shortlist. That is a tight cycle — roughly three months from advertisement to your last written paper.

Vacancies: 60 posts

Category-wise the 60 posts split as UR 24, EWS 6, OBC 14, SC 11 and ST 5, with 3 posts reserved for PwBD candidates.

It is worth being blunt about this number. RBI advertised 120 posts in the 2025 cycle and 60 in 2026 — half. Fewer posts with the same or larger applicant pool means the cut off rises, and the 2025 Phase 1 cut off of 77.50 out of 200 was already the highest in years. Eligibility in short

• Age (as on 1 April 2026): 21 to 30 for General; 21 to 33 for OBC (NCL); 21 to 35 for SC and ST, with further relaxations for PwBD, ex-servicemen and candidates with research experience.
• Qualification (General DR): Bachelor’s degree with at least 60% marks — 50% for SC, ST and PwBD. DEPR needs a Master’s in Economics and DSIM a Master’s in Statistics or Mathematics, each at 55%.
• Attempts: 6 for General and EWS, 9 for OBC (NCL), unrestricted for SC and ST.

Application fee

• General, OBC and EWS: ₹850 plus 18% GST
• SC, ST and PwBD: ₹100 as intimation charges plus 18% GST

How the selection works

Three stages. Phase 1 is qualifying only — 200 marks, 120 minutes, with sectional timing, and its marks are discarded once you clear it. Phase 2 is three papers of 100 marks each: Economic and Social Issues, Descriptive English, and Finance and Management. The interview carries 75 marks, so the final merit is out of 375 — 300 from Phase 2 and 75 from the interview.

There is also an unscored psychometric test between Phase 2 and the interview: online, 100 to 120 questions, about fifteen to twenty minutes, to be completed within five days of the email. It carries no marks but the report goes to the interview panel.

What to do now

If you are in this cycle and waiting on the interview, keep your documents in order and read your own Phase 2 answers again — panels ask about what you wrote. If you are preparing for the next cycle, the useful thing about the 2026 calendar is how little room it leaves: six weeks from advertisement to Phase 1 is not enough to build Economic and Social Issues or Finance and Management from zero. Those two papers are the work, and they are best started now.
