Context

The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan campaign, initiated by Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, is set to launch on 29th May 2025 from Puri, Odisha. The campaign will run for 15 days, concluding on 12th June 2025. Shri Chouhan will visit nearly 20 states, engaging directly with farmers, scientists, and agricultural stakeholders.

About

The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan is a nationwide farming initiative held twice a year—just before the Kharif and Rabi sowing seasons. Its main goal is to guide farmers at the village level on how to improve crop yields, maintain healthy soil, and manage resources better.

This campaign aims to reach over 65,000 villages in 723 districts, directly involving more than 1.3 crore farmers. Through this program, farmers are encouraged to adopt scientific and sustainable farming practices that are not only climate-friendly but also focused on their needs.

Overall, the initiative supports India’s broader vision of becoming the “Food Basket of the World” by promoting modern, resilient, and farmer-first agriculture.

Organizers

The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan is led by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare along with key partners like the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), State Agriculture Departments, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). Together, they work to bring expert advice and support directly to farmers.

India is also embracing technology in farming through several innovative programs. The Digital Agriculture Mission, AgriStack (which creates digital Farmer IDs), and the Namo Drone Didi scheme are all part of this shift toward smart farming.

To make things even easier for farmers, mobile apps like Kisan Suvidha offer useful farming information, while AI-powered irrigation systems under the “Per Drop More Crop” campaign help farmers use water more efficiently and improve productivity. These combined efforts aim to make agriculture more modern, sustainable, and farmer-friendly.

Launched under the leadership of Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, this biannual campaign directly engages millions of farmers across thousands of villages, bringing cutting-edge agricultural and fisheries innovations to the grassroots level.

By combining technology, scientific knowledge, and strong community involvement, the campaign not only addresses the immediate needs of farmers but also strengthens India’s long-term goal of becoming the “Food Basket of the World.” Through focused efforts on self-reliance, improved crop and soil management, climate-resilient farming, and digital integration, it supports the broader vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
