SEBI to Expand AIF Framework

  • Three categories:
    • Category I — venture capital, SME, social venture and infrastructure funds; government-encouraged sectors
    • Category II — private equity and debt funds; no special incentives and no leverage
    • Category III — hedge funds and funds using complex trading strategies; may use leverage
  • Minimum investment in an AIF: ₹1 crore, reduced to ₹25 lakh for employees and directors of the fund
  • Minimum corpus: ₹20 crore, or ₹10 crore for an angel fund
