Context
Chennai-headquartered deep-tech startup The ePlane Company (incubated at IIT Madras) unveiled the e200X (PT-01) — India’s first full-scale prototype of an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, or “electric air taxi.”
About the e200X
What It Is
- An eVTOL is a zero-emission, battery-powered aircraft that lifts off and lands vertically like a helicopter, then transitions to forward winged flight like a conventional aeroplane.
- PT-01 is the first prototype on the e200X platform, integrating all major subsystems airframe, battery pack, landing gear, propulsion and avionics — into a single operational structure for the first time.
- Marks the shift from design/simulation into physical ground testing, ahead of flight trials and certification.
