The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples is observed annually on August 9 to recognise the rights, cultures, traditions and knowledge systems of indigenous communities. The UN proclaimed the day in 1994, with the first observance held in 1995. The 2026 theme is “Honouring Indigenous Midwives: Safeguarding
